Like Mary who had a lamb follow her to school, bacteria follows our kids back to school.  Should we just use more antibacterial cleansers OR is this a plus for home schooling?

  1. Jennifer, I don’t like hand sanitizers as a whole — don’t like how they smell or feel, and worry that they contribute to superbug proliferation. But I can see their convenience. What do you suggest? How do you handle this in your family?

Well, if home school is out– then we fall back to the old stand-by, which is actually very good advice, wash your hands, wash your hands, wash your hands.
follow the 20 second rule, soap up for 20 seconds, rinse and dry with a clean towel and you’re set!

Hey Jennifer, I’m not a fan of hand sanitizers either. I don’t like the feel or smell and also think the old school methods of soap water and wiping feels like I’m getting the best clean for my efforts. I also don’t like the research showing that using all the antibacterial stuff will harm us in the end. I avoid antibacterial stuff when I can…though I do use paper towels to open public bathroom doors…

But sometimes hand sanitizers are great, like when you are biking and there is no bathroom around, or at a fair and the bathroom lines (and sinks) are too long.
    What about in those circumstances?
