The Dirt on Dirt

Here’s a great new book about the history of germs through the ages.  For centuries people thought that submersing oneself in water was dangerous.  Open up all those pours and who knows what could leech out or get in!  A ring around your collar meant the fabric was sucking up all that dirt.  Nevermind the smell–everybody had an aroma.  Just put on more perfume. (You wonder why smoking didn’t catch on any earlier.)

Thanks for the heads up on this one. I just added it to my wish list. Of late I have really enjoyed historical looks at everyday things like eating and cooking, now hygiene. Puts a great perspective on our present lives.
