The Dirt on Dirt

December 3, 2007

Here’s a great new book about the history of germs through the ages.  For centuries people thought that submersing oneself in water was dangerous.  Open up all those pours and who knows what could leech out or get in!  A ring around your collar meant the fabric was sucking up all that dirt.  Nevermind the smell–everybody had an aroma.  Just put on more perfume. (You wonder why smoking didn’t catch on any earlier.)
